The Injury

Jim Nill released a statement today updating everyone about the condition of Jamie Benn. What was once thought to be a simple upper-body injury has materialized into a lot worse. Unfortunately, Benn is no longer considered day-to-day, now he is week-to-week.

Nill stated that the Stars Captain has a collapsed lung. Specifically, I’m told, Benn has “pneumothorax” a condition where air enters the space between the lung and chest wall, causing the lung to collapse. Pneumothorax is easily caused by an injury, such as a chest wound or broken rib, which Benn might have experienced two nights ago against the Wild.

Timeline

Benn is likely out for several weeks, depending on the severity of the injury. Unfortunately, Benn will be injured for the next 2 weeks at a minimum.

The worst case scenario would lead to Benn getting surgery for this condition and requiring several months to recover. Only time will tell what the severity of Benn’s injury is. Right now, all the Stars faithful can do is hold their breathe and wait for more news.
